FIRE / INSPECTIONS:
A complete Inspection involves an evaluation of every
part of the heating
system, from the floor pad to the chimney cap.

"Insurance
& Safety Tips"
The Inspection of a space heater is
usually quite straightforward
since the appliance and flue pipe are accessible. In spite of this, the
great number of appliance designs, shielding systems, and installation
instructions make the Inspectors job challenging. Fireplace inserts
cannot
be properly Inspected without partial disassembly, allowing clear view
of the liner. Central systems are designed to prevent overheating of
the
appliance and adjacent combustibles. The condition and function of
these
controls must be checked and tested for a thorough Inspection,
measuring
clearances is not enough. A certified report will provide assurance of
safety and satisfy your Insurance Companies requirements. Private
Inspectors
give the homeowner a professional, unbias report that provides peace of
mind.

Roof Pitch can be determined by measuring
the number of
inches from the end of a level down to the roof. Once you have
determined
the rise over run or pitch, ie: 4/12 then you are able to
purchase
the roof flashing. The overall height of the chimney must be at least 2
feet higher than any taller point on your roof that is within 10 feet
of
the chimney.
Arranging an inspection of a new chimney
or wood heating
appliance, or if you're replacing one wood stove with another, you'll
probably
need to get a building permit from
your municipality. If that's the case, the building inspector may
automatically
inspect your installation as part of the service. If you want to have
an
existing wood heat installation inspected, call your local fire
department.
The fire department doesn't just fight fires -- they're also concerned
with preventing fires by helping you reduce all types of fire risk in
the
home. Your fire department may be able to do the inspection themselves,
or they may recommend a complete inspection by a certified installer or
chimney sweep. Click the Insurance link above for more information on
clearances
and safety issues. Call the office for assistance with any of the above
issues.
