APPROVED C.E.T. LICENSING THROUGH PEO:

The Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) approved recommendations of its Technologist Licensure Task Group. The task group recommended that PEO start the process required to licence qualified, Certified Engineering Technologists, (C.E.T.) as a special class within the limited licence provisions of the Professional Engineers' Act. The task group concluded that regulation of the practice of limited licensees providing engineering services to the public would be more effective if they were able to hold a Certificate of Authorization. The proposal to allow C.E.T.s to apply for a Certification of Authorization is extremely important because it will allow L.E.T.s who have gone through a rigorous selection process to use their licence to provide professional engineering services to the public. C.E.T.s will be required to maintain their status in OACETT.

Council is taking steps to amend the Professional Engineers' Act such that all limited licence holders and L.E.T.s would become members of PEO with all the rights, privileges and responsibilities attendant thereto.
